Capelin fishing has tripled

The total volume of pelagic fishing in Iceland is now about 501.000 tonnes so far this fishing season compated to about 283.000 tonnes last season. This is is equivalent to just over 77% increase. Increase of 304% in the value of pelagic fishing

Value of catch amounted to 3 billion kronur in January 2011, which is about 304% increase from the previous year. Reykjavík is the largest landing harbor

Proportionally, the most valuable catch in recent years have been landed in Reykjavik, according to figures from the Directorate of Fisheries.
