Cod stock index rose in the fourth year in a row

Cod stock index rose the fourth year in a row in the basic measurement index by the Marine Research Institute, which is annually updated in March.  A press release from the institute says this can be attributed to an increasingly better value from large cod, i.e. 70 cm and larger.  The first evaluation of the 2010 stock of cod indicates that its condition is poor. Samples from the 2008 and 2009 stocks scored the other hand as medium-sized compared to previous measurements dating back to 1985.

Demersal catch is now at 268.640 tonnes, but at the same time last year 307.596 tonnes. Decrease in groundfish catch amounts to about 12,6% so far this season.
